Фильм повествует об этапах экспедиции Минобороны России совместно со специалистами Русского географического общества на Матуа. Исследователи изучили затопленную во времена Второй мировой войны в двух километрах от берега американскую подводную лодку Herring. Для изучения субмарины к ней на стометровую глубину спускался обитаемый подводный аппарат с водолазами. Также во время экспедиции были исследованы японские тоннели и подземные ходы.
